    Nurses' Educational Needs Assessment for Financial Management Education Using the Nominal Group Technique

    SummaryPurposeThe purpose of this study was to identify the financial management educational needs of nurses in order to development an educational program to strengthen their financial management competencies.MethodsData were collected from two focus groups using the nominal group technique. The study consisted of three steps: a literature review, focus group discussion using the nominal group technique, and data synthesis.ResultsAfter analyzing the results, nine key components were selected: corporate management and accounting, introduction to financial management in hospitals, basic structure of accounting, basics of hospital accounting, basics of financial statements, understanding the accounts of financial statements, advanced analysis of financial statements, application of financial management, and capital financing of hospitals.ConlusionsThe present findings can be used to develop a financial management education program to strengthen the financial management competencies of nurse

    How lessons learned from the 2015 Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreak affected the response to coronavirus disease 2019 in the Republic of Korea

    The Republic of Korea (ROK) experienced a public health crisis due to Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in 2015 and is currently going through the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Lessons learned from the disastrous MERS outbreak were reflected in the preparedness system, and the readiness capabilities that were subsequently developed enabled the country to successfully flatten the epidemic curve of COVID-19 in late February and March 2020. In this review, we summarize and compare the epidemiology and response of the ROK to the 2015 MERS outbreak and the COVID-19 epidemic in early 2020. We emphasize that, because further COVID-19 waves seem inevitable, it is urgent to develop comprehensive preparedness and response plans for the worst-case scenarios of the COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneously strengthening healthcare capacity to endure the peak demand and implementing smart strategies to sustain social distancing and public hygiene are necessary until safe and effective therapeutics and vaccines against COVID-19 are available.Peer reviewe

    Intracorporeal Anastomosis Using Linear Stapler in Laparoscopic Distal Gastrectomy: Comparison between Gastroduodenostomy and Gastrojejunostomy

    Purpose: Intracorporeal anastomosis during laparoscopic gastrectomy is becoming increasingly prevalent. However, selection of the anastomosis method after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy is equivocal because of a lack of technical feasibility and safety. We compared intracorporeal gastroduodenostomy with gastrojejunostomy using linear staplers to evaluate the technical feasibility and safety of intracorporeal anastomoses as well as its' minimally invasiveness. Materials and Methods: Retrospective analyses of a prospectively collected database for gastric cancer revealed 47 gastric cancer patients who underwent laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with either intracorporeal gastroduodenostomy or gastrojejunostomy from March 2011 to June 2011. Perioperative outcomes such as operation time, postoperative complication, and hospital stay were compared according to the type of anastomosis. Postoperative inflammatory response was also compared between the two groups using white blood cell count and high sensitivity C-reactive protein. Results: Among the 47 patients, 26 patients received gastroduodenostomy, whereas 21 patients received gastrojejunostomy without open conversion or additional mini-laparotomy incision. There was no difference in mean operation time, blood loss, and length of postoperative hospital stays. There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative complication or mortality between two groups. However, significantly more staplers were used for gastroduodenostomy than for gastrojejunostomy (n=6) than for gastroduodenostomy and (n=5). Conclusions: Intracorporeal anastomosis during laparoscopic gastrectomy using linear stapler, either gastroduodenostomy or gastrojejunostomy, shows comparable and acceptable early postoperative outcomes and are safe and feasible.     High performance carbon nanotubes thin film transistors by selective ferric chloride doping

    Single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) have been a significant research topic as active layers for thin film transistors (TFTs) due to their high charge carrier mobility beyond that of crystalline silicon. In this study, we report an effective approach to achieve a very high field-effect mobility and on/off ratio for solution processed semiconducting SWNT TFTs, by selective doping through contact with a thin ferric chloride (FeCl3) dopant layer. The semiconducting layer is formed by a double spin coating of the highly purified (>99%) high pressure carbon mono oxide (HiPCO) SWNT sorted by wrapping of poly (3-dodecylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3DDT). In order to achieve effective hole injection from the top Au source electrode without increasing the off-state drain current, less purified (98-99%) SWNTs produced by the plasma discharge process sorted by wrapping of poly (9,9-di-n-dodecylfluorene) (PFDD) are formed on the top of HiPCO film. Significantly improved TFT performance is achieved by the insertion of a few nanometers of a FeCl3 dopant layer at the semiconductor-contact interface. A significant high hole field-effect of 48.35 +/- 3.11 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1) (bare: 6.18 +/- 0.87 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1)) with a reasonable on/off current ratio of 10(5), and low off current of similar to 80 pA, are obtained by controlling the concentration of FeCl3 dopant (thickness = 1.5 nm) at the contact. Mobility is improved further at 2.5 nm thickness of the FeCl3 dopant layer resulting in a hole mobility of 177 +/- 13.2 cm(2) V(-1)s(-1), an on/off ratio of 7.4 x 10(3), and off state current of 1.2 x 10(-9) A
